Seattle to Portland (STP) is an iconic bike ride named in Bicycling Magazine's Top 10. The epic 332km event takes place on the second or third weekend of July, with around 8,000 riders expected to make it from Seattle to Portland in a day or two! The ride is famous for its spectacular scenery along the course, which lies through country roads to avoid Interstate 5. Participants will pass Lake Washington, Mount Rainier, Mount Saint Helens as well as countless lush valleys, green forests of Washington and Oregon states.

Seattle to Portland was founded in 1979 by the Cascade Bicycle Club. At first it was designed as a race, but in 1981 the format was changed to a recreational ride. The winner of the inaugural race was Jerry Baker from Seattle.

About 2000 riders are able to complete STP in one day, although for the majority of riders, who come from all over the US and Canada, it takes two days to finish. About 50 km (48 mi ) of the route is uphill. The midpoint of the ride is in Centralia, WA, where there are showers, first aid, bike repair, food and drink vendors, live music, and a beer garden. Other food and drink stops include Seward Park, Tenino, Vader, Goble, and Scappoose.
